Dad You Should Never Say That!
Episode 32: The Great Summer Camp Escape
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this summer catch-up episode of DYSNST 32, Micah and Addie return after a month away and jump straight into life at camp, where Addie has spent the past several weeks working nonstop. The episode covers everything from long camp days, sunburns, golf carts in torrential rain, and the chaos of keeping campers safe, to the deeper moments that make camp meaningful—like praying with students, sharing testimony, seeing a camper make a decision for Christ, and building real relationships that carry beyond the week. Addie also breaks down what a typical Christian camp looks like, including worship, small group time, activities, camp crushes, invitation nights, bell ceremonies, and fireworks.
Of course, it wouldn’t be this podcast without plenty of random side quests. Micah and Addie revisit the legendary “brown cow” debate, talk about their camp snack-bar rule-bending days, and spiral into conversations about the weirdest books in the Bible, why Psalms feels so dramatic, and which biblical or historical figures they’d most want to talk to. The episode also veers into true crime, Sherlock Holmes, Jack the Ripper, and Addie’s fascination with criminal psychology, all while keeping the tone funny, energetic, and conversational.
This episode is a mix of camp stories, faith, humor, nostalgia, and the kind of father-daughter banter that makes DYSNST 32 feel like catching up with two people who are just letting the conversation go wherever it wants. It’s a great listen for anyone who loves summer camp stories, Christian conversations, random deep dives, and genuinely funny family podcast energy.
It's like summer.
SPEAKER_02That is that is true.
SPEAKER_00I feel like we haven't done this in like five years.
SPEAKER_02It's been like a month. We're back.
SPEAKER_00Has it been like a month?
SPEAKER_02It's been almost a month, yeah. Because I've been at camp for four weeks.
SPEAKER_00Dang. Four weeks.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because I got my second paycheck yesterday.
SPEAKER_00Ooh, how was that? Did it feel like you were actually making money?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00No. No. Because can't never pay. I mean, they pay in God bucks if that's what we're saying.
SPEAKER_02That is true. Um, no, I just have like things that I gotta pay for, so it's like I'm like looking at my bank account and I'm like, wow, I got paid and it doesn't show.
SPEAKER_00Welcome to adult team.
SPEAKER_01It's okay.
unknownIt's okay.
SPEAKER_00It's okay. Everything's fine.
SPEAKER_01Everything's fine. Everything's fine.
SPEAKER_02Um But yeah, been a camp for four weeks. We've had a total of four camps so far.
SPEAKER_00Oh wait, we need to tell people what we are.
SPEAKER_02Oh. Um, a podcast where nothing we say matters, the points don't matter, and we're just here for the goodbyes and good laughs.
SPEAKER_00Hey now, things we say matter. What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_01Some of the things we say matter.
SPEAKER_00I mean, there's a very limited view of people who care what we say.
SPEAKER_02That is true.
SPEAKER_00But I will say our numbers are. We are rising in the daddy-daughter category of podcasts.
SPEAKER_02Yes!
SPEAKER_00I know. It's pretty amazing.
SPEAKER_02What are you five out of seven?
SPEAKER_00Um, no, I think there's more than that. It's just uh it's not led to anybody calling us to give us money.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's really sad. We really do need some sponsorship.
SPEAKER_00I mean, we should be paid to do this because we're damn funny.
SPEAKER_02We are funny. Yeah, no, I think we've done this. I think we've talked about it before of like what sponsors we would want. Um, I really want an energy drink to sponsor us because as a college kid, that's what I live off of. Um but it can't be Red Bull because like when Red Bull sponsors somebody you have to like do crazy stuff, like jump out of a plane and close.
SPEAKER_00We can do that. It's totally fine.
SPEAKER_02Right. I won't get a letter. I'll film you doing it.
SPEAKER_00Texas Tech will let us do that crap on campus.
SPEAKER_02That would be awesome. Like jump out of a plane and parachute onto the football field during a football game.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02That would be awesome. I mean, I wouldn't do it because I don't like Heights and falling, but it'd be cool if we got offered that.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you think you really would fall?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I I wouldn't do it, definitely not. Um, but it would be fun to like get offered to do it. I just wouldn't do it. I want to get to the point where like we're offered things and we're just like, you know what, we're good. We're set where we are.
SPEAKER_00Ah, we want to be able to decline.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I want to be, I want to be where like somebody's like, yo, we want to sponsor you, and we're like, actually, no, we're good. Thank you. We're not at that point yet. And I want to do a live show. Those are my those are my two goals. Actually, my real goal is to do a live show.
SPEAKER_00All of our amazing listeners, we are now at almost a thousand downloads. I'm just saying we're only 30 episodes in. That's a pretty good ratio.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say, what episode are we on?
SPEAKER_0030. I don't even remember.
SPEAKER_01I don't remember.
SPEAKER_0032. This will be 32.
SPEAKER_0132? Okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I was like no idea. It's been a minute since we've done this, so that's not bad.
SPEAKER_00Well, how's camp going? Have you learned anything new?
SPEAKER_02Um, I've learned to wear sunscreen, even if you're gonna be outside for 30 minutes. Um, because I re I've gotten some really terrible sunburns. Um I know how to drive a golf cart really, really well, especially in torrential rainstorms. Um, and um yeah.
SPEAKER_00Why are you driving a golf cart in torrential rainstorms?
SPEAKER_02Well, you know what? Sometimes you gotta get where you gotta go. And it's pouring down rain, and you don't wanna walk, so you just have some golf cart, and you hope for the best.
SPEAKER_00So I mean, like, are we talking black skies, real windy?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Lightning.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like, and you're on water, so it's almost like you're a setup for some kind of slasher movie.
SPEAKER_02Basically, yeah. Um, well, like I was out in the rain the other day for like 45 minutes to like help campers get back to their their bunks, and I got an ear infection from it. So that was fun. That was really fun.
SPEAKER_04You did what?
SPEAKER_02Well, so it was like pouring down rain, like literally torrential, and these campers had to run back to their cabins, right, to go to bed because it was like 11 o'clock. Um, so we're like, okay, guys, go to bed, right? Well, we watched a lot of people almost slip and fall, so then we thought it'd be a good idea. Let's put staffers in the rain, just standing there to make sure that people don't eat it, right? Right. So we did that. Um, and this girl did actually eat it, and we had to help her, and she like couldn't walk, and it was a whole thing. But so we got her to help soon and she was fine. She was real freaked out. She was like maybe 11. She's freaking out.
SPEAKER_00Um, like she had never had a boo-boo before.
SPEAKER_02No, like she ate it, like she went down and like her she was in burks, like plastic birken socks, and they like went up onto her calf. Like the way that she like fell forward, they like were up on her calf. Like, they weren't even on her feet anymore. So I like we had to like rip them off, pick her up, take her to the health center. So then the health techs wanted to get out in the rain. Um, we were already soaking wet, so we were like, We got this. So we got her help, and she was fine, she was just freaking out. I think scared her more than anything. Um, but she fell hard. So then we stood out there and we were just like, please run safe, please run safe, please be safe. Uh uh. Things like that. But everybody made it, nobody else got hurt. So it was kind of funny to like watch 40-year-old grown adults like run to their cabins in the rain. That was funny, in my opinion.
SPEAKER_00They run pretty funny, don't they?
SPEAKER_02And they do, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And then there's a couple, there's a couple kids that were just walking, and I was like, yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's how I roll.
SPEAKER_02I'm just I mean, you're gonna get the same amount of wet no matter what, so you don't want to run, just walk.
SPEAKER_00Uh, walking to Insomnia cookies in Chicago. Dude, literally. We're already wet, bro.
SPEAKER_02They're already soaking. Who cares? We really wanted those cookies, though. Those are some good cookies, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh, they were some great cookies.
SPEAKER_02And I think it was better that it was pouring down rain, honestly. Well, because we were in the cool experience.
SPEAKER_00We're sitting in the window watching other people walking the rain.
SPEAKER_02Had a bag of boats, and we were like, please don't get wet. Okay, so you've had four camps, three camps, four camps, four camps, four camps, two camps that we've two camps that we've run and two camps that we were rented out for.
SPEAKER_00And what are some of your observations? Are your camps runned better than the other people's camps?
SPEAKER_02Um, they're run pretty similar. The first one we had was a megachurch. Um, so it was definitely a lot different than we rent run ours. Um, because I mean they had 600 something kids for two grade levels, which is crazy.
SPEAKER_00That is crazy.
SPEAKER_02I mean, like 650 to 700 kids of just seventh and eighth graders, or just like a whole middle school. Yeah, literally. So they run it a little bit differently because their kids are younger and there's so many of them that they kind of have to.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, but I mean they're they're overall they're run pretty similar. So uh, but no, it's it's been it's been great. Like I've had such I've had such great moments with campers. Like yesterday, for example, I literally sat and I talked to this group of 15 campers for 30 minutes. Um, and I was like, they were just like wondering like why I was at camp, why I was working, things like that. And I had to share a little bit of my testimony, which was really cool. And they were all like so locked in on me. And they're like eighth graders and freshmen in high school. Um, but they were like so locked in on our conversation, and I was like throwing bars in there, like just like random stuff that I thought that they would think was funny, and then they were like freaking out. I was like, Oh my gosh, if I whatever. Um, and then literally later that night they they came up to me again, and this was in front of like almost everybody, and they were like, We love you, Addy, like the best, the best offer, we love you, all these things, and then they like invited me to eat breakfast with them this morning, which I'm off uh today. And I was like, I was like, you know what? I will get up at the crack of dawn to go to breakfast with you. So I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_03I will get up. I will get up, I will be there.
SPEAKER_02So I literally got up at 7:30 this morning when I probably should have slept in. Got up at 7:30. Um, so I got to sleep in for 30 more minutes than normal. I was at 7:30, got ready, um, and then ate breakfast with them at 8 a.m. and hung out with them for like 40 minutes, and I took a picture with them, and they're so sweet. Um but that interaction was awesome. Um, and it kind of like reminds me of like why why I'm doing what I'm doing. Like, even in the times where it's hard, like physically and mentally and spiritually, and all the things, like moments like that remind me of like why I'm here. Like, I had a girl in this camp as well who was like bawling her eyes out in worship and like literally like couldn't breathe bawling, and I like pulled her outside and I was like, Hey girl, do you want to talk? She was like, actually, yeah. I was like, so I took her out to the flare and I talked to her and um kind of got to like walk her through the steps of giving her life, and kind of she was kind of just saying things of being like, you know, like everybody's kind of like you need to make the decision on if you're a believer or not, and I'm just not sure where I stand. Like I've been in the church for years and I still don't know where I am, like um, and things like that. So I got to like sit down with her, have a deep conversation about her, talk to her about her struggles versus what I struggle with, and we had a really great conversation about it, and she ended up being saved last night and ringing the bell, which is like a thing for us, is like a it's almost like it's like a it's almost like a baptism in a way where it's an outward sign of an inward decision. And we do it for first-time believers. Um, we have this bell and they go under and they ring the bell, and she did that last night and came up to me after like blowing her eyes out and was like, Thank you so much for everything you've done, and um how much you've helped me, and it was just like moments like that of like knowing that I had a real impact on helping to on helping Jesus make an impact on this girl's life who was legitimately like 14. Um it was just awesome to be able to do that. And then the group that I got to talk to yesterday, I was talking to them about like real stuff, like stuff that they deal with, and it was you know, it was really interesting to just have a conversation with them and like like throw funny moments into it so it's not just like serious and churchy. Um but at the end of the day, like I think all of them really heard what I said, and um that like the fact that they literally ended me to eat breakfast them the next day. I was like, okay, like I actually, you know, I made an impact. Um, they were so sad, like they literally group hugged me when they left. They were like, We're so sad, we're gonna miss you so much. Um so it's interactions like that that just make me so happy, but it's also like just funny, like just watching kids interact with other kids is so funny sometimes. Um because I'm on media, I kind of just get to ride around my golf cart and go take pictures, so I get a lot of kids' interaction, and I see a lot of kids um interact with other kids, which is really funny to watch, if I'm being honest. Um, but and like you know, it's it's my favorite part is like, oh, like the camp crushes or whatever. And if you've never been to a church camp or a summer camp in general, every year everybody has a camp crush. Um, it's just a thing that happens before you move on.
SPEAKER_00For those that have never been to a Christian camp, kind of go over what a normal week would be. Like it's usually four days or five days. Don't go super in detail, but then that way they'll kind of maybe get an idea of why these crushes happen because it is hilarious.
SPEAKER_02It is really funny. Okay, so it's ours, so our high school, I say high school, it's seven through twelve. It's a five-day camp. So they come in at night, they eat, they do a worship, and they do like a worship night of like an intro, like, hey, this is who we are, this is the thing. We play a bunch of games, we do a bunch of stuff. And then we have three full days, and the days run the exact same. So they get up, they eat breakfast, they go to worship, do a small message, it's like 10 minutes because it's like literally 9 a.m. and nobody's paying attention that early. Um, and then they go and they do activities. So depending on your group, depends on the activities. So we have dry activities, wet activities, which is like banana boats, which is two being off the back of a boat. Um, we have a pool and we have like a little pond. Um, because nobody's allowed to swim in the lake anymore. And then dry is like archery, BB guns, um, we have a thing called a hexapod, which is like a really high-in-the-air um obstacle course with a zip line on it, where they get to like play goggle ball and basketball and go to the camp store and whatever. So we do that, they eat lunch, and they have like three different sections of that throughout the day. So they're basically you go to worship at morning and worship at the in night, and through the day, you're just doing the most random camp activities possible. Like it's literally the most random stuff, and you're paired up with another team. So it's you, your team and another team, you go to activities together. So the camp crushes to me are funny because it's like, when do you have time? Like, is it just in passing that you just like pass this person or like you see him in worship or like in the dining hall, and you're like, yo, that person's cute. Um, because you're like your days are set to a T, and like you have to be in certain places at certain times always. So it's like, and your days are like they are scheduled out, you gotta be there when you gotta be there. It's crazy days, they're long days. Um, but it's always just funny to me, like when you're in the dining hall, like serving, and you can like overhear. I'm really nosy, so when I overhear people talking about camp crushes or other interesting drama going on within the campers, I'm like, let me hear, spill it. I want to know what's going on. Um so that's basically like how how the camp runs. Um in the last night, we do invitation every night. Um, but basically, invitation is like, hey, if you're feeling the Lord work in your life or here or feeling the spirit, you know, take a moment, talk to a leader if you want to live give your life to Christ, or if you just want prayer, or if you just want next steps, like have that moment and like kids cry, and it's it's a it's beautiful, it's a great moment. Um and then we have night activities, so it's like silent disco was is one of them. We do a glow run where that they literally run around camp and have to do different stations and they get glow sticks for it. Glow sticks? Is that what they're called?
SPEAKER_00Glow sticks, yes.
SPEAKER_02Glow sticks. That feels wrong.
SPEAKER_00In my day, they used glow sticks when you danced, and it was like you spun them around, you threw them at people. Kind of like at Johnson High School during the blackout.
SPEAKER_02Uh so we do that, and then on the last night we do bell ceremony, and then we actually host a fireworks show for our campers, which is really cool.
SPEAKER_00What? They do fireworks?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we do fireworks, yeah. We do fireworks, and they're it's like a full-blown firework show, it's awesome. And we get throw-up seats.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we got that. No, we didn't dumb.
SPEAKER_02I have a video of it, I'll show you later.
SPEAKER_00Cool.
SPEAKER_02Um, so yeah, it's it's a like they do a lot, but they have a lot of fun. And like we try to like as staff, we try to make it as fun as possible. We'll keep making sure everybody's safe. We try to make it as fun as possible, and you know, have those conversations when we can. And like every single camp that we've had, I've made relationships with these kids that I'm like, y'all are awesome. Like, there's kids from last camp that I remember that I'm like, I'm I'm gonna miss y'all. Um, and there's kids from this camp that I'm like, y'all are awesome. Um that part of it's awesome. Like just building relationships with these kids that you might see again, you may never see again, but you know that you made an impact on their life. Um just an awesome feeling.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I think I mean I've most of my ministry and most of your your I mean most of your life, that's kind of what I tried to model was like you never know what these kids are going through, you never know what their home life is like. I mean, we've talked about that even not even at camp of like your job is to just if you can and you get influence in these people, just remind them that they're awesome, that uh that that God loves them and has got they got a purpose and life is hard, but at the same time uh it everything's doable. You know what I'm saying? Like it may seem like it's the end of the world, but at the same time, not really.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. But it's funny to like watch these kids be like so hype at 9 p.m. Because by 9 p.m. I'm like wiped and I'm like, girl, I don't know how y'all like it's day four of y'all's camp. You guys you guys have been up since 7 a.m. You go to bed at 11 p.m. You probably don't even go to bed at 11 p.m. if I'm being honest. You're probably getting four hours of sleep. You're outside of the sun all day, you're doing all this stuff, and you're having connections with people and God and all of these things, and yet at 10 p.m. we're doing silent disco and you're the hypest I've seen you all day. Like that part of it is just like you have like these kids have so much energy, and it makes you want to have more energy. And like just being around like the way that they act, you start wanting to like have more energy and be excited because like even though it's 10 p.m. and we've been working for 13, 14 hours, we're like, okay, we're good, like let's go, let's get hype, let's get excited. Um our staff does a really awesome job of making sure that like if the kids are hype, we're hype. Um and if the kids should be hype and they're not hype, we make them hype. Um, so it's just moments like that. But you know, it's it's it's an awesome experience, and like I I I tell everybody this like of my friends, um like even if it's not a Christian camp, go work at a summer camp. Even if it's for four weeks, go work at a summer camp. It's awesome.
SPEAKER_00It's something there's them there's there's organizations.
SPEAKER_02There's because there's staffers at this camp that I know that I'm gonna walk out with and still be like close, close friends with them.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02Like there's a couple of them that I'm like, I know that I'm gonna walk out of this and we're gonna stay friends and we're gonna continue talking and um be there for each other.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02And everybody's got different stories and everything, but it's just it's awesome. Like the bonds you make with kids and the bonds you make with like your co-workers because you're all struggling with the same stuff of being absolutely exhausted and having to be hyped. Um, it's just awesome.
SPEAKER_00Alright, let's talk about real quick. Um this may hurt some people's feelings, but let's talk about the snack bar and the reason why some of these kids are all jacked up full of energy. This particular camp has a pretty famous drink called the brown cow.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_00Now the brown cow is soft serve ice cream, if I remember correctly, and root beer. Root beer, right? No. Or Dr. Pepper slushies. Well, it wasn't a slushy.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't a slushie back when we were there, and there was only one option. It was the brown cow, and that was it. Now it's slushies. There's you get color-changing cups with it. What? And there's options. You can get a lemon cow, which is called a yellow cow, you can get a strawberry one, which is like strawberry paint, which is like some kind of strawberry paint. I don't know. I hope it's not fanna, because if it's fanna, I'm gonna be upset because we can't have the orange cow. There's there's a there's a secret menu item called the Dream Cow, which is strawberry and lemon with ice cream. There's a crazy cow, which is swirl ice cream with Dr. Pepper's sales, which is so good, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Chocolate, vanilla, and Dr. Pepper?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's like swirl. And then there's a dirty cow, which is chocolate ice cream. Phenomenal. I've had one every camp. They're awesome. So good. But it's so much sugar.
SPEAKER_01So much sugar.
SPEAKER_00It is a lot of sugar, but I'm gonna I'm gonna now say nobody go to this camp anymore. Just get it off your list because if you're not gonna have an orange cow after the many years that we fought administration for an orange cow, I mean, they tried to outlaw okay. So let me let me just tell the story real quick and we can jump in. Brown cows. We go up, we ask for brown cows. Yay, yay, brown cows. Next year, we go up and go, hey, instead of Dr. Pepper, can we get I think it was Orange Crush. Can we get orange crush inside of this ice cream? I mean, literally, they're pulling the ice cream in the cup, and then they go to the soft drink dispenser thing. Put Dr. Pepper in it, and then maybe it's literally just a float.
SPEAKER_02It's all all of orange. We were there with a float. That was it.
SPEAKER_00But they would tell us no. Like it was against the rule of God that that orange crutch could not go in this ice cream cup. And I'm like, it's just an ice cream cup. So what did Micah and Addie do? Probably around the third day, we were like, oh, can I just get a cup of ice cream? And then Addy would go, Hey, can I just get uh an orange crush? And we would walk our little our little cells back to the table. Like Addy's like 11 years old, maybe at this time. We walk back to the table and we're scoop some of that ice cream into her cup, and she pours some of the orange of mine, and we were like, Look, we just we just did it. Like, why do you people fighting me on this?
SPEAKER_02Because here's the thing about me and Micah, we are not rule breakers, we are rule benders. Benders, we bend the rules. And let me just say, we continued to go to this camp years after this, and we continued to do this until one year. We were caught on to. And then Micah and Addy were no longer about allowed to buy orange sunkiss. We were blacklisted.
SPEAKER_04We were blacklisted.
SPEAKER_02We're blacklisted for buying sunkiss. The funniest part was the fact that we could get ice cream and we could get any other soda, but we could not get orange sunkiss. Like we literally were told that we weren't allowed to do it because we were caught doing it. And it's like we're not selling drugs to kids, like we're just trying to have an orange cow.
SPEAKER_00Why is this typical? It was not in the rule book anywhere that you're not allowed to mix ice cream with whatever drink you want. So stupid.
SPEAKER_02Because back in the day when we were there, they didn't do floats. Like if they were doing a float, it was an orange, it was a brown cow. Like that's what it was. They didn't do floats. Now we do floats and brown cows because the whole brown cow thing was changed. Oh now it's like a flush against.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So we just couldn't make a sun kissed float. Because that's all it was.
SPEAKER_00That's all it was. Bunch of dream killers. I mean, Jesus was awesome at night and in the morning, and then we go to lunchtime, and it's like uh no, no, no, no people do not mix the orange with the white.
SPEAKER_02And I'll say this, me and Micah were smart about it the first couple years. We would like stand separate in lines. Like Micah would be here, and I'd be like two people behind him.
SPEAKER_00Two separate separate lines altogether.
SPEAKER_02Like we blame this out because we wanted that orange cow.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Do I want ice? No, I don't want ice. Uh meet me at table 11, please.
SPEAKER_02Literally. Yeah. I tried to bring it back this year, uh, but we have changed from Coke and Pepsi products to only Pepsi products. So we're literally not allowed to sell Coke products.
SPEAKER_00They don't have Sunkissed, which is Sunkist is Pepsi, but they probably just don't have it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But I'm pushing for it.
SPEAKER_00I'm pushing for it.
SPEAKER_02I mean I'm gonna start a petition.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'll take this back. You can still go to the camp. I'm just saying. Uh I looked in the Bible and there was no orange cow, anti-orange cow in the old testament or the new testament.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Is ice cream kosher?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. That's a good question.
SPEAKER_02Why is there a requirement? I am. What's the requirement for something to be kosher? That's my question.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, that's a good idea. Like it can't be fed certain things. Um pretty sure soda's not kosher.
SPEAKER_02Ice cream. I literally have somebody I could text and ask who is Jewish. I've just okay. So software ice cream has to be verified that it's kosher. Like it has to be specifically verified before you can have it because it's I guess by itself. No, I it just I don't it just says it just says that it has to be it has to have it has to be verified. Okay, the machine has to be verified that it's kosher.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that means nothing else has been in it. Um okay. Um, so meat and dairy products cannot be mixed or consumed together in the same meal. This rule requires observant individuals to have a separate set of dishes, utensils, and wait times between your meals.
SPEAKER_02I feel like a brown cow is kosher then. I mean except for the fact that the the word cow is in it. I think it's kosher. If the ice cream itself, because you'll our ice cream machines only have ice cream in it. I feel like that qualifies it.
SPEAKER_00I know, but I don't know if the coke does. But I don't know. Who knows? I should ask that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Is Dr. Pepper kosher?
SPEAKER_00kosher they are inherently kosher and do not require a specific symbol on the packaging. However, sodas do contain hidden ingredients like colorings, flavorings, and glyce glycerines. Dude, I am not English.
SPEAKER_02Well, everything has hidden ingredients.
SPEAKER_00That may not be kosher.
SPEAKER_02So I think it's I think a brown cow can be kosher. Okay, the reason I'm saying that was because the reason why I'm saying that was purely because in the old testament it's like beat kosher, eat kosher food. So I was gonna say that the Bible does say that you can't have brown cows. That was gonna be the joke, but no.
SPEAKER_00Well, the old testament. That was my joke. Old Testament was all wiped away because Jesus came and then the same. So now we're right, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I know. I've read Leviticus. Um you okay. We got lots of questions, so I want to know your answer.
SPEAKER_04Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_02What do you think is the weirdest book in the Bible? Out of all 66 books, which one is weird? The weirdest.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's not the weirdest. I think I think Revelations is pretty crazy. Because it's supposed to be telling the end of times, and nobody knows anything about what the end of times are gonna be like. Now the prophets, I mean, you know, there were prophets that kind of gave visions of what was gonna happen. Yeah, you know, Jesus coming in, riding white horses, thunder and lightning. Nobody knows any of that stuff. He could just be he could already be here, and then he's already like dude, Dutch bros.
SPEAKER_02What if what if Jesus like I think about this sometimes? What if Jesus just like pops down into earth sometimes? Like just in random places, just to like see what's going on, and like nobody knows it's him. What if he just like pops out?
SPEAKER_00We don't know what his we know we don't know how he uh he identifies. He could just roll down, like bloop, all right. I'm in the Starbucks line now. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Um okay, there's not so somebody else said Revelation. Um I agree. I think it's it's definitely a weird book because like it's just kind of everywhere. Um the the pastor that was talking about this said um what did he say?
SPEAKER_01What book did he say? I can't remember.
SPEAKER_00You know what is a really interesting book?
SPEAKER_02Oh, wait. I think it was old, I think it was like I don't remember. Anyway, my answer is Amos. I think Amos is a weird book. It's also like four pages long. I just I read it, don't know what's going on.
SPEAKER_04You didn't have a lot of things.
SPEAKER_02I really don't really don't understand what's going on in that book, if I'm being honest.
SPEAKER_00Like I've I've read it because it's so short, but I'm just like I think what's crazy though is that we never it was decided for us what we were supposed to be listening to. So or reading. Because I think originally the Catholic Church decided what books were gonna be in their version of the Bible and what were not, and then those were universally trans adopted.
SPEAKER_02So like well, I think we talked about it before with the Book of Mary that Mary Magdalene wrote.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So I do have another question, another answer to that. I think another really interesting book is Psalms.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because it's like half poetry, half songs that you know were that he played on the guitar and he wrote and all this stuff. But if you go and you look at like half of them are like, Oh my gosh, the suffering of this person, and then the other half are like real joyous.
SPEAKER_02It was written by David, right?
SPEAKER_00Right. But you know, like how could you be like Psalms 1, 2, or 3? You're like, Jesus is the best, Jesus is the best, and then all of a sudden you're like, Oh, I'm weeping because I'm the worst person ever. But yeah, it depends on what he was going through right now or at the times.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I recently read, I think it was Psalms 20 or 21. Um, because like we do a devotional every morning, like within our camp, but on day seven, whatever day of the week that falls on for us, um, the day seven is like a choose your own adventure where like you get to pick your own book. Uh, but the first time our one of our guys was like, hey, let's go to Song of Solomon. Uh not Song of Solomon.
SPEAKER_01Bruh.
SPEAKER_02Psalms. My gosh, not Songs of Solomon. Oopsies. Wrong book. Songs is also just like so freaking long.
SPEAKER_00Correct. Like 20 is real short.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um was it 20 or 21? I'm trying to find it. Real quick. Because I know where I know what it is. Because I also thought it was funny. It was really like it was I was reading it and I was like, okay. Cause okay. Okay, so t okay, so Psalms 21 is very much like his glory is great through your victory. Da da da da. You will make them burn in a fiery furnace. When you appear, the Lord will engulf you in his wrath, and fire will devour them. Whatever.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02So it starts off. This is how it starts. The king finds joy finds joy in your strength, how greatly he rejoices in your victory. You give him his heart's desire and not deny the request for his list. Right? It's really just really awesome.
SPEAKER_04And then it ends with uh descendants from the earth.
SPEAKER_02You will wipe their progeny from the earth and their off and their offspring from the human race. Though they intend to harm you, you will devise a wicked plan and they will not prevail. You will put you instead you will put them in flight when you are ready for your when you ready your bowstrings to shoot at them. And then it ends with, we will sing your praise, your might.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's just it's really just it's a funny book.
SPEAKER_00Something happened around verse seven.
SPEAKER_02Really? Something really got to David in that moment where he was just like, okay, do you who wrote the book of Genesis? Does anybody know? Oh, you can't hear me?
SPEAKER_01Hello?
SPEAKER_02It's showing that I'm speaking.
SPEAKER_00Can you hear me?
SPEAKER_02I can hear you. Can you hear me? What the heck, man? Uh it says that I'm speaking. I think this is a you problem. It's a you problem. It's not an E problem.
SPEAKER_00Alright, I got it.
SPEAKER_02It's a you problem. Thank you.
SPEAKER_00It came out of my head though.
SPEAKER_02Who wrote the book of Genesis? Do we know? Um the world now.
SPEAKER_00I think it was a combination of people.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's Moses.
SPEAKER_00Moses.
SPEAKER_02Well, he's considered the author of Genesis. However.
SPEAKER_01It's not.
SPEAKER_00I think it was a compilation though, from what I remember reading.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Kind of uh kind of like different stories all molded together into one.
SPEAKER_02But most most most people believe that Moses wrote Genesis.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. For the most part.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I mean that makes sense. I think it's I think it said that he wrote the first five books. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. I think it said that he wrote the first five.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Who knows?
SPEAKER_01Um.
SPEAKER_02I actually think Job is a funny book. Um, because the fact that Job is just like, by the way, everything in my life went to absolute hell. Like, every literally, my wife is gone. My kids are gone. My livestock is gone. I have literally nothing, by the way. And it's 42, it's 42 chapters of just, you know what? We ball. I still trust you. You know what? I may have nothing. I don't even have clothes on my back. But you know what? I got you, God. Like, I'm still on your side.
SPEAKER_00I just I don't know if I could do that. I gotta work on myself if I gotta if I'm honest, because I don't think I would actually. I don't know if I could live through that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't uh if I was in Job's situation, I I don't think I would. I don't think I'd be able to be like, thanks God. Thank you. You know what? Thank you for taking those things out of my life. Because he literally does that. And I'm just like, that's that's great for you, Joe. That's somebody I would want to talk to. I'd be like, yo, so what was going on?
SPEAKER_00How did you how did you keep who in the Bible would you talk to?
SPEAKER_02Dude, who in the Bible would you talk to? Like, that's a great question. Because like I love people's answers when they're like, oh, one of the disciples, and it's like, oh, you're basic. Like everybody wants to talk to the disciples, obviously.
SPEAKER_00We talked about that before. Like, I think we talked about the display. I think we did. Like, okay, let's go non-bible. Who non-bible would you want to talk to? Um be really weird.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, I kind of want to talk to Hitler.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I kind of just want to know what he was thinking and why he why he why he woke up one day and said, you know what? I'm gonna kill millions of people just because I can. Like I really want to know what was going on in his noggin.
SPEAKER_00Um and how he had he became so much power for just talking. He like he went to meeting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. No. He also had like genital deformities, which we found out a couple months ago, which was really funny. Um so Hitler would definitely be one of them. Because I just I just want to know what was going through his head and why he why he decided to kill millions of people just because he could, and how he got that many people on his side. Um, but I'm also just like a junkie for nerds and criminals, so that'd probably be one of them. Um trying to think like real old people. Honestly, I'm gonna throw a wild card out there, but you may or may not know who this is. I kind of want to talk to Catherine of Aragon, which is Henry VIII's first wife. Yeah. The one that he broke off the church from. I just want to know how you continue living your life when your husband legitimately creates a new church just so he can divorce you and marry a woman who was 30 years younger than you. Like, I really just want to have a conversation with her and be like, hey girl, how are we doing? What's going on?
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02That's gotta be rough. That's gotta be a rough situation to be in.
SPEAKER_00So, like, I don't remember if I told you this, but you know, historically DNA-wise, we're like bastard bloodline of Henry the Seventh.
SPEAKER_02Bro, where's my castle?
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm talking about. Like, there's shit.
SPEAKER_02Where's my castle? Where's my reparations of ex royalty people from actually we wouldn't get anything if we're bastard? We're technically bastard related, which means that we actually are probably okay.
SPEAKER_00No, wait, wait, wait. There was a difference because if you were a bastard daughter, you could still be a princess. Because you were no threat to the throne.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_00You were a bastard son, you would still be you're still part of the lineage, but you couldn't be a prince or anything because you were illegitimate and had no way to the throne. But the girls could still be just who they were.
SPEAKER_02So tell me princesses back in the day were really looked down upon, like they really had no worth and were like sold off for treaties and stuff.
SPEAKER_00So well, I mean there was that. Three oxen, that's that's a lot. I'm not saying you should be sold. We were oh wait, wait, here's my question real quick. Here's my question.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no.
SPEAKER_00Sherlock Holmes.
SPEAKER_02That's a great answer.
SPEAKER_00I want to know what that dude you talk about, but what dudes are thinking. He his brain has to be going seven miles an hour.
SPEAKER_02I think he took acid regularly. Like, I do genuinely think that Sherlock Holmes was just really on drugs all the time. Yeah, and that's why his brain worked that fast, and he was just like really good and just nobody.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I never even thought about that, but that kind of tracks a little bit.
SPEAKER_02I mean, um, yeah, that's that's a great answer. Like, what also, like, how did he get to the point where he was like, by the way, I know who killed this person, and like to where he was confident enough to like go to the police and be like, by the way, I did your job for you.
SPEAKER_00Right. So, like, we watched that Sherlock Holmes show, and that's real I wanna so good. How by the way, I want to know how close I mean, we'll never know.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I got bad news. I got bad news for you. Yeah, what Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character, not a real person.
SPEAKER_00Uh I mean it's fine, but there's gotta be it's there's gotta be somebody that's just like him that is that uh quick and solves crimes and yeah. I mean it's you just ruined my show's.
SPEAKER_02Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. It was based on somebody. Okay, so Sherlock Holmes was based on a guy named Dr. Joseph Bell.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Well, now my my my dreams are are.
SPEAKER_02But it was based on not crushed a surgeon.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_02Like a surgeon being really good at like observations.
SPEAKER_04Oh and like kind of like the mentalist stuff. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like the surgeon was so good at it. Um, and then he took inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe as well, which is great. That's my favorite poet. Um, but yeah, it's based on a guy named Joseph Dr. Bell, or Dr. Joseph Dr. Beau. Dr. Joseph Bell. That's who it's based on. Okay. It was the author's mentor.
SPEAKER_04Huh.
unknownAlright.
SPEAKER_02Scottish surgeon. The more you know. Well, I also thought Sherlock Holmes was like a real person, but dang, that's really sad.
SPEAKER_00Because like didn't one of those shows like he was trying to solve the Jack the Ripper thing?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they base it on real crimes. Like they they base shows on like real stuff that has happened.
SPEAKER_00Okay. See, I'm not that smart.
SPEAKER_02We actually still don't know who Jack the Ripper was, so nobody knows who he is.
SPEAKER_00No, it's probably a cop.
SPEAKER_02I mean he's dead now, because that was a long time ago, but yeah, nobody knows who he is. You know what we said we were gonna do and we never did?
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_02We're gonna do serial killer of the month, but we never did that.
SPEAKER_00Oh. Well, that would have to be totally you because I am not in that space enough to know.
SPEAKER_02Okay, we'll do a qu you know what we'll we're gonna do at some point.
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_02That's fine. I said I was gonna end the episode with it, but we can do it next episode.
SPEAKER_00Let's just do a whole episode and then we'll just see where it goes on that particular. You just pick one.
SPEAKER_02I talked to okay. We'll end it on this. This was funny. Um, but yeah, I'll I'll do some research and I'll find I'll find one for next episode. Um well okay, so we were so we had a band come in for this last camp, and they like hang out in the green room, which lies like connected to our office. So I was walking through there and I was talking to some of the band members just kind of hanging out. Um, and I had I had tech, I have tech shorts. So I had my tech shorts on, and one of them was like, Oh my gosh, like you go to tech, and I was like, Yeah, and they were like, Well, like one of them had lived in Love It for a little bit, and I was like, Oh, like that's so cool. And he was like, Yeah, not really, there's nothing there. And I was like, Well, that is true. Um, so we were talking about whatever, and he was like, Well, what's your major? And which I hate that question, because then I had to explain why I do it, you know, why my major is what it is. Um, and that I'm not a serial killer, I promise. So I told him, you know, we start talking about it with one of my minors, whatever. Oh hanging out talking about it. And one of the other band members go, so you like really like crime, and I said, Well, I don't like crime, I like studying crime. Um and we start talking about it or whatever, and one of the the head, the head, the guy goes, So, like, do we need to be worried about you? Or like, and I was like, I was like, Well, me, no. I was like, other criminology majors, maybe. I was like, Did y'all not hear about that thing that happened in Washington? And they all looked at each other and were like, No. And I was like, Yeah, there's a criminology major in Washington that um killed two people and got away with it for months because he knew how to do it because he was a criminology major. And they all looked at me stunned, and I was like, Yeah, and I was like, but don't worry about me. I'm I was like, No, you don't. I was like, You're good, trust me. I was like, I'm not interested. Um, but it was just funny the way that they were like, they were like so like intrigued in the fact that I really, really like learning about murderers. They were like, that's really good for you, but really rough. And I was like, whatever. And then they were like, Oh, so you must really like horror movies. And I was like, actually, I hate horror movies with everything in me. However, I have seen crime scene photos of a triple homicide and had no reaction. So I don't really know, but like I really don't like horror movies. However, true crime documentaries, real, real like crime scene photos don't bother me. Um, and they were just laughing at it. They were like, So why are you working on Christian church camp? And I was like, you know what? That's a great question. They were like, that's very different from what you want to do. And I was like, Well, I was like, sometimes you just gotta take a side quest. Uh go serve the Lord for a little bit. Go serve the Lord for a couple for a couple months. So that was just a funny interaction with some of the band members, but were they like they were like um younger 20s and 30s, probably, but I they were kind of from all over. Um, but they had played together at something, and so then they had gotten back together for camp. But like one of them was from Nashville. Um, the guitar player was lived in Nashville. Um and I asked him, I was like, so how'd you get a ministry? And he was like, you know what? Somebody asked me to pick up a guitar, 16 years old. Um, and people just keep asking me to pick up a guitar. So nine years later I picked up a guitar again, and here we are. And I was like, Well, it kind of sounds like my dad. I was like, that basically is how my dad became a pastor. Um, if I'm being honest. Yeah. So it was just kind of a funny they were awesome, they were super, super sweet. Um they were talking about the most random things.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, that's fun. I mean I'm glad. I mean, that's what's kind of cool, I guess, about you being in camp. I took you to so many of them. And then I never I don't think I ever played in any of your camps, but you've been around music and musicians for so long that like it's just uh kind of like a normal part of your life to randomly run into these dudes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was on, I was doing a pro presenter last night. Um, and the pro presenter decided to like actually kill itself. Um, and br I had a headset on. I told Brennan I said, hey, pro presenter just killed itself. Give me like 30 seconds. And he was like, he wasn't up there. And like, so like the screens cut out, everything cut out, like lyrics are gone. We're in the middle of a really like really emotional Christian song, too, which is like not a good time for this to kill itself. Um, so I started typing away. I like refresh some things, I get it to work, and I pull it back up and it pops back up. And Brendan goes, I don't even think I can do it that fast. And I was like, Brendan, I wasn't kidding when I said that I've been doing this since I was like six. Like I was like, You could give me that iPad and I could run sound, like I've been doing this a long time. Um, or like we were having problems with some of the lights, and I don't have a lot of experience with lights, but I have enough experience with like watching like um home church people just kind of do stuff, just like sitting in the booth, yeah. Um but he was like trying to reprogram something, and I was like watching him um and he was like, I don't know how to make this do this, and I was like, I think I've seen this before. I was like, hold on. So I was like, try this, and it worked, and I was like, Oh, I was like, I did it. I was like, oh my gosh. Um but it was just funny. Um but also like on the headsets, it was only me and Brendan, so like we it was just we were having craziest conversations, just like hanging around, just like listening to the message and hanging out. Some kid absolutely ate it and fell in the back of the worship center, so nobody saw us but us, and we like popped just we were making fun of him.
SPEAKER_00100% like I wish that was recorded, Instagram kind of feel.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. And like the camera that we were filming the worship with wasn't pointed, like it was right out of frame, and I was like, See, you're not kidding me, no.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, it was a fun time.
SPEAKER_02I love being up in the booth, it's fun.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you were a techie kid.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I wasn't an iPad kid, but I was I do know how to run a soundboard in a pro presenter.
SPEAKER_00You do. Um Well, I'm pretty sure I think that's all we got for today. I didn't go brush up on my serial killer stuff.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna pull a really random out one out too. I'm not gonna talk about like Ted Bundy and then Two Things Who Too Famous. I'm gonna pull up I'm gonna find one that's like really niche.
SPEAKER_00And then I will try to guess just based on my the name.
SPEAKER_01Oh they did.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Alright, peeps. Well, thank you for training to the Daddy's Nurses Day Podcast. And it is summer, so our schedule may be a little whacked out because of camp and all of the things. But we hope you have a great summer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00What else? No?
SPEAKER_02Um Eat your veggies.
SPEAKER_00Eat your veggies.
SPEAKER_02I can tell all of the campers.
